Inaugural Granite City Gold Cup

August 22, 2012

Tripleheader To Wrap Up First Season At GCS

The all new Granite City Speedway in Sauk Rapids, MN is set to bring an end to its inaugural season with a massive tripleheader weekend, featuring ground pounding racing action on three consecutive days to put an exclamation mark on a tremendous first season of operation.

The Granite City Gold Cup will feature complete programs for WISSOTA-sanctioned Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks and Mod Fours and will serve as a huge weekend for Central Minnesota drivers and for those drivers not from the area that are searching for valuable WISSOTA national points as the season winds down.

Friday, September 28th

Gates will open at 4pm, draw cut off will take place at 6:30pm and racing will begin at 7pm for all 5 divisions.

Saturday, September 29th

Gates will open at 2pm, draw cut off will take place at 4:30pm and racing will begin at 5pm for all 5 divisions.

And, Sunday, September 30th

Gates will open at noon, draw cut off will take place at 2:30pm and racing will begin at 3pm for all 5 divisions plus the Northern Vintage Stock Cars will join the action on Sunday as well.

Track General Manager/Promoter Chris Stepan said ‘We wanted to have a one-of-a-kind invitational to end our first season at Granite City and this tripleheader should be a perfect way to go out with a bang. The format is great for fans and drivers alike because fans will get to see 3 nights of awesome racing and drivers will be able to come to town, set up camp and race for three straight nights without having to travel from track to track. This should be a huge draw for those drivers chasing national points as we are only 1 of 3 tracks racing in WISSOTA country that weekend and we are the only track offering three complete national point shows for the drivers.’

Fans will also get a bonus this weekend as Sunday will also be dubbed as Fan Appreciation & Kids Day. Kids will have the chance to win free bikes for the second time this year at GCS on Sunday, we will have clowns and other fun stuff for the kids and all fans will have the possibility of receiving discounted admission prices on Sunday as well. It’s pretty simple – Adult ticket price (ages 17-59) for each of the three days is $15, senior admission prices (ages 60+) are $12 and students (ages 13-17) are $6 each day. However, on Sunday, if fans present their ticket stub from either Friday OR Saturday when purchasing their admission ticket at the gate, they will receive a discount, making adult tickets only $10, senior only $8 and students only $4. Children 12 and under are always free.

Payouts and nightly post-race entertainment plans will be published later this week, but in the mean time for more information, please check out www.gcspeedway.com and we hope to see you at Granite City.
